An old-world Santa in a long red coat carved with swirling scrollwork, finished with a green cape collar and a hem of holly-leaf diamonds, carrying a holly topiary in a clay pot. It’s Jim Shore’s “Holiday Trim” from the Heartwood Creek collection, a tall, slim figure that fits on a mantel, shelf or windowsill.

Jim Shore grew up in rural South Carolina, where his grandmother, a master quilter, taught him the patience behind intricate patterns. His Heartwood Creek collection with Enesco started in 2002 with a small group of Santas and grew into one of the best-known folk-art lines in giftware. The pieces are cast in resin and hand-painted to look carved, with quilt blocks, folk florals and bold color worked into every surface.
